NPF Wokha division holds co-ordination meeting

CorrespondentWokha MAR 20 (NPN):

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Wokha division held a co-ordination meeting on Friday at VDB Hall, Wokha, on May 20, bringing together legislators, senior leaders, and party workers to deliberate on the party’s recent merger and future course of action.
The meeting was attended by advisor and legislator in-charge of NPF Wokha division, Mhathung Yanthan; MLA, Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe; senior vice president of the Central Office Bearers (COB) and advisor to the chief minister, Dr. Chumben Murry; along with party workers from both central and divisional offices.
Delivering the keynote address, advisor Mhathung Yanthan highlighted the need to reorganise party structures following the merger. He urged party workers not to be disheartened by changes in responsibilities, stating that such adjustments are sacrifices for the greater good. Assuring that contributions would be recognised in due time, he called for unity under one umbrella.
He further emphasised that political participation should be guided by peace, progress, and development. Highlighting the role of party members as vital links between the government and the public, he said they must disseminate information, educate citizens, and facilitate the implementation of government schemes. He also encouraged members to build trust through unity and respect, and to bring grassroots issues to the party office for collective resolution.
Calling for a shift in mindset, Yanthan said, “We are the government,” urging members to focus on contributing to society rather than seeking personal gain.
In his address, MLA Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe appealed to all party wings including women, youth, and farmers to remain united. He acknowledged the sacrifices made during political transitions, including mergers with NCP and NDPP into NPF, and stressed inclusiveness and collective responsibility. He said the mergers were aimed at strengthening peace and development in the state and urged members to convey this message as a sign of progress.
Senior vice president (COB) and advisor to the chief minister, Dr. Chumben Murry, described the meeting as significant, being the first after the NDPP–NPF merger. He stated that the merger was driven by the Naga political issue and maintained that NPF remains a strong platform to address unresolved concerns while safeguarding cultural and religious identity. He encouraged members to adopt a competitive approach to development and to build constructive relationships with civil society leaders.
Earlier, short speeches were delivered by chairperson of Bhandari Town Council, Khongthungia Michael Odyuo; chairperson of Wokha Town Council, Myingthungo Kikon; and vice president (COB) in-charge of Wokha division, John Ezung.
Reports were presented by president of the youth wing, Amos Odyuo; president of the women wing, Yanchi K. Khuvung; president of the farmers wing, Limathung Ovung; and general secretary (admin), Manthungo Kikon.
The programme, chaired by president of NPF Wokha division, L. Meribemo Kinghen, included a one-minute silence in memory of departed party workers and concluded with the party slogan.
