NPF Youth Wing hosts ‘One Nagaland Run 5K’ in Mokokchung

MOKOKCHUNG, AUG 19 (NPN): The Mokokchung Division of the Naga People’s Front Youth Wing organised the district-level edition of the “One Nagaland Run 5K” on Wednesday under the theme “Running Together, Growing Together.” The event, initiated by the NPF Central Youth Wing, drew over 80 participants to promote fitness, unity and athletic talent across the district.
Participants assembled at the Rotary Club House Junction at 5 AM for registration, with the race formally flagged off at 5:30 AM by advisor to the NPF president and chief minister, Apong Pongener. The 5-kilometer route stretched from Rotary Club House Junction to B.O.C and concluded at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex.
The programme began with an opening prayer by vice president of NPF Mokokchung Division, Marchizung and concluded with a vote of thanks and closing prayer by president of the NPF Youth Wing Mokokchung Division, Takonungsang. Speeches were delivered by president of Mokokchung Athletics, Apong Pongener and Rongsentoshi Jamir, highlighting the importance of community fitness and youth participation.
Cash prizes and citations were awarded to the top three finishers in both categories:
Men’s Category: 1st – Takasanen Longkumer (Rs. 5,000), 2nd – Talimiem (Rs. 3,000), 3rd – Temjensanen Pongen (Rs. 2,000)
Women’s Category: 1st – Sungtiyala C Imchen (Rs. 5,000), 2nd – Jemie P (Rs. 3,000), 3rd – Opanglemla Jamir (Rs. 2,000)
Special awards of Rs. 1,000 each were presented to Putiyanger (12 years) as the youngest finisher and Limayanger (56 years) as the oldest. Two second-youngest participants, Metsulong and Lanutemjen Kichu (both 13 years), also received recognition.
The event, hosted by general secretary of the Youth Wing Mokokchung Division, Imlinungba, combined athletic competition with community spirit, reinforcing the NPF Youth Wing’s vision of fostering unity and growth through sports.
