To offer customers of quality meat, the Nagaland Pig Farmers’ Association (NPFA) has decided to certify butchers with “trust” stamp/label provided they practiced standards set by the association.
This was decided at the 4th general meeting of NPFA held at the residence of Dr. R Wati. Ao, Thahekhu village, here on Friday.
The house maintained that by putting ‘trust’ label on the signboards of the shops, the butchers would send out positive message that the meat sold was of local origin and of high quality.
NPFA stated that without profit motive it would procure high quality protein feeds for the benefit of its members and the Naga farmers in general. Feeds would include Soybean meal (46% CP) and Fishmeal (65% CP).
The meeting also discussed the issue concerning opening NPFA new office at Duncan bosti. Setting up of new office would further the networking among farmers, buyers, government offices, NGOs etc and maintain information of livestock in Nagaland.
The new office would also be a point for assistance to farmers, where they would be provided free medicines, veterinary assistance, sourcing of products essential but not available in the local market or any other activities deemed fit by the members of NPFA.
At the meeting, the house also discussed on the “price ceiling” set by government agencies under their respective jurisdiction. They were of the view that this was hampering the growth of the Naga economy, which discouraged the people of Nagaland to produce quality pork. They said low price led to low farm price, which directly dampen pig farming.
Meanwhile, the house decided to extend the term of NPFA office bearers for another 2 years term to organise exposure trip to ICAR (NRC PIG) – Rani Guwahati arranged for by NPFA.
