Naga political groups (NPGs) have agreed to implement the Council of Naga Cooperation and Relationship, a working mechanism, to move forward in unity. This was decided at a meeting convened by FNR of authorised representatives of NPGs held at Chümoukedima on Tuesday to honestly reason together and explore constructive ways out of the impasse, recognising the deep turmoil and anguish of the Naga people.
In a joint statement, the NPG representatives also sincerely implored and invited all NPGs and Naga public to be part of the process.
Further, in efforts to strengthen the 2009 Covenant of Reconciliation, the NPG representatives reiterated their commitment to honour Naga historical and political rights, as expressed through the Naga Memorandum to Simon Commission of 1929; Declaration of Naga Independence in 1947 and Naga Voluntary Plebiscite of 1951.
The signatories also recognized that Naga ancestral territories and peoplehood, cut across all artificial boundaries and declared that they would continue to safeguard and protect these inalienable rights together as a people.
In the process of pursuing Naga aspirations, the NPGs acknowledged to having faltered, hurt each other and angered the people through words and actions. They also confessed these shortcomings before God, to Naga people, and neighbours and assured to become more self-vigilant, responsible and accountable.
Testifying God’s love and faithfulness even in the midst of their failure, they pledged to be steadfast in their collective commitment towards finding a common ground.
