NPO flays oppression, seeks intl attention

The Naga Public Organization (NPO) has strongly condemned the alleged oppression of Naga indigenous people across the India-Myanmar border, urging the Indian government to immediately halt human rights violations and calling for international intervention.

In a statement issued by NPO chairman Yangli and secretary general Rev. Isaac Jojo, the organization highlighted the historic challenges faced by the Naga people, who inhabit border regions in Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh (India), and northern Sagaing Region and Kachin State (Myanmar). These areas remain underdeveloped, with limited infrastructure and persistent socio-political challenges.

NPO alleged that Indian border security forces have arrested, assaulted, and mistreated rural Naga residents along the border, worsening their hardship and impeding regional development.

It said that the enforcement of border fencing, reportedly under the guise of security, has further deepened poverty and isolation in the Naga region, restricting cross-border movement and essential trade.

NPO asserted that the Indian government must end its inhumane actions and focus on providing support and development initiatives for the underprivileged Naga communities.
NPO, supported by Konyak Union, Khiamniungan Council, Lainaung Council, and various Naga tribal groups from Myanmar, urged the international community to intervene and monitor the situation, ensuring that the rights and welfare of the Naga people are upheld.

Reaffirming their resilience and unity, the Naga leaders emphasized that their people must not be marginalized and that sustainable development, rather than militarization, should be prioritized for lasting peace in the region.
