Nagaland unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) was officially launched here during a programme held at Bookmarc Conference Hall, Supermarket area on Saturday.
Speaking at the launching programme, NPP national general secretary and in-charge of Nagaland, Vivekraj Wangkhem said the party had already established its base in 10 states and that Nagaland was the 11th state where the party was being launched.
He said NPP was launched in January 1993 by former Lok Sabha speaker, late PA Sangma, with the main objective to stand for the tribal people. Wangkhem announced former state BJP president, Ato Yepthomi and Sasank Ghatraj as the convenor and co-convenor of NPP Nagaland unit respectively.
Ato Yepthomi in his short speech highlighted the history and achievements of NNP under the leadership of Conrad Sangma. Yepthomi said, since the party’s inception, its members had increased in numbers and the presence of the party’s membership outside the state of Meghalaya including Rajasthan and Manipur shows the usefulness and discipline of the party.
Yepthomi said although NPP would not promise to bring about “overnight and supernatural transformation” in the state, it would attempt to create ripples of change which would be felt in every nook and corner of the state.
He underscored that NPP would play the role of a game-changer in the political arena of the state by focusing to resolve immediate problems of the people rather than dwelling on lengthy and unrealistic promises which were rather impossible to achieve.
He asserted that the party would bring about a revolution in the way party offices were run by setting it up in such a way that no party office bearers including the party president and the general secretary would be in the fray for any Assembly or General Elections. Likewise, he added, any politician wishing to join the party office as an office bearer must first of all relinquish their office or position by a formal resignation which would create a more rigid party administration without any bias or political pressure.
Yepthomi gave an open invitation to any individual from any political party to come and join the party provided they abide by the ethos and values enshrined in the party’s (NPP) constitution in spirit and letter.
Earlier the programme was chaired by NPP, Nagaland state co-convenor, Sasank Ghatraj. Invocation was pronounced by Christ for Downtrodden Ministry founder president, Ato Angami.
Former DMC deputy chairman, DP Angami delivered the welcome address while former Chang Khulei Setshang president, N Kaimanh Chang proposed the vote of thanks.
