SHILLONG, JUN 9: The National People’s Party (NPP), which leads the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government-2.0, has reaffirmed its commitment to expand the party’s footprint across India while staying true to its motto, “One Voice”, “One Northeast”.
The NPP, the only party from the North Eastern region to earn the national party tag, took this decision in its National Committee meeting, chaired by its party’s national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma held on Monday at Orchid Resort, Mawkasiang, New Shillong Township.
During the meeting, senior NPP leaders, office bearers, and MLAs from Meghalaya, Manipur, and Nagaland, reviewed preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election in Meghalaya, the anticipated Garo Hills Autonomous District Council polls, and the Manipur Assembly elections.
The National Committee meeting, the apex decision-making body of the party, adopted resolutions on strengthening democracy, protecting indigenous rights, promoting peace and reconciliation, and accelerating inclusive development across the Northeast under the vision of ‘Northeast 2047: Gateway to Prosperity’.
The NPP also called for a transparent and consultative FCRA framework, while reaffirming its commitment to youth and women’s leadership, sustainable development, and stronger inter-state cooperation.
NPP national president Sangma underlined the strategic importance of the region, stating that the Northeast is central to India’s future and has the potential to emerge as a gateway to prosperity and growth for the nation.
“Despite challenges, especially in states like Manipur, we see opportunities to strengthen our presence. We are committed to working at the grassroots level and engaging with people to bring stability, development, and representation,” he said.
A detailed session on the Uniform Civil Code was initiated by Meghalaya MLA and NPP national secretary Ampareen Lyngdoh. A presentation on revisiting Article 371 in the Northeast was delivered by Manipur MLA M. Rameshwar Singh.
