Commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) visited the children of Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Home, Sunday.
In a press release, NPYC president, Vilhousielie Kenguruse, stated that as soon as Indira Gandhi took over as Prime Minister of India, she “inherited ceasefire agreement and had six round of talks with FGN/NNC delegates”.
“The talks broke down but then during her term revolutionary government of Nagaland had signed and solve part of the problem. It was then, the NNO (forerunner of Congress party) joined INC with 10 points modalities, giving Nagaland a special place in the nation,” Kenguruse stated.
He further stated that Indira Gandhi had given the highest respect to the Naga noble cause adding that during her life Shillong Accord was agreed and over 700 political prisoners were released from various jails. Describing Indira Gandhi as fearless and able leader, Kenguruse stated that the NPYC on behalf of all Congress men and women and the people of Nagaland “pay our solemn respect and remember her in this 100th birth anniversary.”
