NPYC holds media interaction on ‘Samvidhan Leadership Programme’

Staff Reporter

The Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) on Thursday held a media interaction at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, to outline the objectives of the Samvidhan Leadership Programme, an initiative of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) aimed at promoting media freedom and amplifying grassroots digital voices.
Addressing the gathering, IYC national media panellist MS Abhijit explained that the programme seeks to build a network of “digital leaders” who can report ground realities and highlight local issues often overlooked by mainstream media. He stressed that the initiative was conceptualised in response to concerns over declining media freedom in India, noting that traditional media faces limitations and pressures in covering hyper-local matters. Abhijit clarified that the programme is not about creating digital influencers but leaders who represent society and speak for the people. It will be open to YouTubers, social media creators, local media channels, and individuals interested in public issues. He emphasized that the platform would promote constitutional values, truth, and democratic principles.
Highlighting challenges faced by critical voices, he cited the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh as an example of suppression and intimidation. To support participants, the programme will provide training in content creation, narrative building, and technical skills, along with legal assistance through a dedicated team. Financial support and recognition for credible work will also be prioritized.
When asked about political bias, Abhijit clarified that participants need not align with Congress ideology. “We are not asking anyone to speak for the Congress. We only expect them to report the truth,” he said, adding that the programme is open to individuals across regions, irrespective of caste, creed, age, or political background.
He further noted that those interested in public life may later choose to enter politics, but the core aim remains strengthening democracy and restoring the dignity of media as a vital pillar. Abhijit concluded by inviting interested individuals to enrol through a registration process, assuring that further outreach will follow.
