Naga Rengma Hills National Workers (NRHNW) of the NSCN (I-M) has opposed the proposal of the Assam government to create Kuki Regional Autonomous Council (KRAC).
In a statement, kilonser Jospeh Rengma said that such move was “certain to collide with the interest of the original indigenous inhabitants, the Rengma people.” Joseph said that the Rengma national workers have taken a strong exception to the proposal, adding that the Rengma people “will never allow Kuki Regional Autonomous Council to be set up in their lands.”
He further raised objection to the memorandum submitted by Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Tuliram Ronghang to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to implement Article 244 (A) to upgrade to the level of statehood, saying “this is totally not in the interest of the son of the soil.”
Naga Rengma Hills National Workers therefore urged Assam government and the Center to not take hasty decision, lest more problems crop up.
Naga Rengma Hills National Workers also said that the “interest of Kukis or Karbis should not be allowed to override the interest of the Rengma people as history clearly defined the political rights of the Rengma people in the Rengma Naga Hills.”
