New Reserve Youth Organization (NRYO) organised a career guidance programme for colony students who made it through in the recently held HSLC and HSSLC examinations at Police Union Baptist Church, here, on Saturday.
Speaking as resource person, CEO & coordinator of Entrepreneurs Associates, Neichute Doulo said it was time to think differently in terms of choosing one’s career.
He said Naga parents often advise children to study hard in order to get government jobs however that mindset needed to be changed.
People here often define success as becoming employed in the government sector while totally disregarding other professions which were equally or in most cases even more lucrative, Doulo said.
He added that instead of grooming and conditioning a young person to only sit for government job interviews they should be taught on how to protect “our” land.
Exhorting the students numbering 109 who cleared their board exams, Doulo said Naga society should stop normalizing things that were utterly wrong.
He pointed out that politics had become synonymous with wealth while side income in local terms meant corruption and that although these “strange systems” existed it was time to root out such practices.
He pointed out that Naga society was in need of a change in mindset and encourage the upcoming generations to start considering even corporate sector jobs as “white collar job” instead of the usual perception.
He clarified that there was nothing wrong in pursuing government jobs as long as one had the determination to serve the people however, the reality of government jobs in Nagaland was for its lenient policies on employees.
He added that a government employee may never step into their office but received their salary for a lifetime which the general mass had now accepted as something normal.
He expressed hope that the younger generation would bring change in the system by bringing out the real meaning of government sector which was to serve the people.
Answering to a query on why Nagas often fail as entrepreneurs, Doulo said such failure may not be simply because of the unabated taxation but because of the mindset and refusal to give the best or to work hard.
Earlier, HSLC 2021 topper, Kenieno Thorie disclosed that it was the endless love and support from her parents which helped her achieve the feat. She remarked that in order to cross a milestone it was important to have a positive mindset.
New Reserve colony panchayat chairman, Vikehiekho Kintso lauded successful students for bringing laurels to the colony and advised them to maintain the momentum of their success.
