The 15th Board Meeting of the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB) was held on March 16, 2026 at the Conference Hall of the Forest Office Complex, Kohima, under the chairmanship of Y. Kikheto Sema, Principal Secretary, Department of Forests, Environment and Climate Change, and chairman of the Board.
The meeting was attended by Vedpal Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF, Nagaland, Sidramappa Chalkapure, CCF & Member Secretary, NSBB, along with other members of the Board.
In his address, Kikheto underscored the urgent need for biodiversity conservation in the State, stressing the importance of coordination with line departments including Agriculture, Rural Development, Women, Science & Technology, Tourism and Tribal Affairs. He noted that much of Nagaland’s biological diversity exists outside conserved forests and urged members to intensify public awareness on conservation and traditional knowledge related to natural resource use.
He further advised officials to propose innovative activities for biodiversity conservation and awareness creation, to be placed before the State Government and the National Biodiversity Authority. During the meeting, the Board reviewed activities undertaken in 2025–26 and sought approval for programmes planned for the upcoming financial year.
