In a crackdown on illegal substances, the Crime Control Cell of NSCN/GPRN-K (Khango-Vusshe) and Naga Army raided and seized a large consignment of illegal foreign poppy seeds from a godown located at Model Village, 7th Mile here on Friday morning.
Addressing the media, MIP kilonser Hokashe Murru informed that the operation was carried out around 7 am following specific intelligence input. He said the Crime Control Cell and Naga Army raided the godown, allegedly owned by one Kiyeto Zhimo, and seized 20 bags of poppy seeds each weighing 25 kg with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 7 lakh.
The seized items were later destroyed at the Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB) office in presence of GBs of Thilixu village.
Murru said such illegal foreign poppy seeds were strictly prohibited and posed a serious threat to Naga society, especially the youth, reiterating the group’s stand against the spread of narcotics. He claimed that the government was making efforts to free Nagaland from such substances. He appealed to both the central and state government agencies to cooperate in the fight against illegal substances, urging them to not shield any wrongdoers.
Reacting to reports of an FIR being lodged against NSCN officials involved in the raid, he expressed concern and called on the authorities to support efforts aimed at cleansing society, rather than targeting those acting in public interest.
Asked on the quantity found at the godown, he replied that the 20 bags were seized as evidence, adding that the remaining bags were left at the site.
Regarding the accused, the kilonser stated that the Crime Control Cell would investigate the matter further.
