The NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael) on Monday organised a blood donation drive at its Central Office under the aegis of its Ministry of Kilo (Home) Affairs, themed “My Blood for Humanity.”
Addressing media, Kilo Kilonser Nokrang Lanu Aier said the initiative was undertaken purely as a social cause and not for political mileage, describing it as a small gesture to contribute meaningfully to the Naga people and society at large.
He expressed gratitude to the donors and informed that volunteers from the Naga Army, along with members from civil and political wings of the organisation, participated in the drive. Around 40 to 50 donors came forward, with more to be arranged if required.
Aier further stated that the programme was organised under the guidance of Ato Kilonser Michael, while encouraging national workers to undertake similar humanitarian initiatives for the welfare of the Naga people.
He also extended appreciation to District Hospital Dimapur Blood Bank, headed by Dr Rongsen Longkumer, for supporting the initiative.
Earlier, addressing the donors, Dr Rongsen Longkumer described the programme as a noble cause and the first such initiative by a Naga Political Group.
He highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation, noting that one unit of blood can save up to three lives. Stressing that blood cannot be manufactured artificially, he explained that the human body naturally replenishes blood every two to three months, making donation once or twice a year beneficial both for patients and donors.
Dr Longkumer added that donors also receive a free basic medical check-up during the process, and reiterated the Blood Bank’s commitment to conducting awareness programmes to promote voluntary donation.
