NSCN/GPRN (Khango) has expressed regret and apologised for the January 4 incident at the ceasefire office, Thilixu village, where misunderstanding had copped up with some Sumi community NGO leaders, village council members and Western Sumi Youth Front.
In a statement issued through its MIP, NSCN/GPRN (Khangno) however said that all misunderstandings were resolved that very night before the village elders had left the ceasefire office, but the issues were resurrected the following day.
The group said it was not trying to justify its action that night at the ceasefire office, which had inadvertently hurt the sentiment of some NGO leaders, but clarify to the rumour about the whole incident.
According to MIP, the issue was on the impeachment and disarming of then NSCN/GPRN (Khango) general secretary Isak Sumi for his lack of decorum and unpolished character. In his entire career as general secretary of NSCN/GPRN (Khango), MIP said alleged that Isak had brought only condemnation and defamation to the government through his arrogance, power intoxication and ambition.
NSCN (Khango) claimed that WC/NNPGs had requested the government in 2019 to give consent to the impeachment motion to relinquish Isak from the post of co-convener, NNPGs and nominate some other official. However, at the behest of Khango Konyak, MIP said he was restored as co-convener.
It alleged that Isak’s only conspicuous achievements were corruption, drug addiction, nepotism, favouritism, autocracy, enormity and embezzlement of government exchequer to quench his lavish lifestyle and acquiring personal properties, which include a palace at Toluvi village worth Rs 5 crore, vast farmland in Niuland, brick kiln, etc.
It claimed that the president and many senior workers had constantly reprimanded him of his misconduct and abuse of powers and functions, but his apathetic attitude persisted, resulting in his impeachment.
After Isak was disarmed following his impeachment, he and his family members were released unharmed under the supervision of then kilo kilonser T Athrong Sangtam.
However, later that night, NSCN/GPRN (Khango) alleged that leaders of some Sumi organisations, including Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF) general secretary Shikuto Zalipu, Thilixu village GB Tokishe and Western Sumi Hoho president Shikaho Zhimomi, accompanied by Isak and some of his accomplices, barged into the ceasefire office without the intention to reason for impeachment decision or diffuse the situation, as stated by them.
Instead, the group accused them of confronting the army personnel on duty and even tried to snatch the weapons from the personnel on duty during the scuffle, resulting in retaliatory action from the army.
However, the group offered its unconditional apology for having hurt inadvertently the sentiments of NGO leaders present there that evening and the Sumi community in general. It also appealed to Sumi Hoho to reconsider its January 6 resolution.
As it was keen in achieving an honourable solution to the protracted Naga issue, the group also urged all stakeholders to render cooperation to the legitimate government.
