NSCN (I-M) through its ministry of kilo affairs has cautioned the owners of hostels and teachers for imposing “unreasonable and unacceptable conditions” on the students in running private hostels and tuitions.
In this regard, the kilo affairs laid down certain dos and don’ts, MIP said in a statement. It has instructed the hostel owners to ensure that the basic necessities for the overall development of the students be made available and hostels should be isolated from crowded areas to avoid unwanted disturbances. To relieve the distress of the students, it also asked the teachers to charge a maximum of Rs. 500 per subject for tuition in classroom, and Rs. 800 per subject for home tuition.
The kilo affairs issued the instructions after many hostels supposed to provide basic necessities were found to be lacking. It added that rooms in some hostels were small, overcrowded and lack required numbers of bathrooms/toilets negating basic hygienic principles and electrical lightings.
It also pointed out that some hostels were running without wardens, proper rules and regulations and administration. The kilo affairs further said that some teachers were charging exorbitant fees ranging from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 4000 for private tuitions and classes conducted only two to three times a week.
Reiterating that such practices of “daylight robbery” has put the fate of students in uncertainty and despair, the kilo affairs has warned of stringent action against the defaulters.
