NSCN (I-M) denies involvement in Kotzim ambush

DIMAPUR, OCT 4 (NPN): NSCN (I-M) has denied allegations circulating on social media that its cadres were involved in the ambush and killing of three Thadou Baptist Association India (TBAI) church leaders near Kotzim in Kangpokpi district on May 13, 2026.
In a statement issued by its MIP, the group described the reports as baseless and fabricated, and stated that no NSCN cadres were involved in the incident.
NSCN (I-M) said it had no knowledge, connection or role in the armed ambush on peace-loving religious leaders and alleged that the reports were aimed at disrupting fragile peace, misleading investigations and creating communal disharmony.
It also clarified that there was no individual named MS Chekneichung Chiru alias Achung in the rank and file of the NSCN, and termed the inclusion of the name in connection with the organisation fictitious and defamatory.
It expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and the Christian community grieving this immense loss and said it respected the National Investigation Agency’s takeover of the investigation. It supported a transparent and thorough probe to bring those responsible for the ambush to justice.
NSCN (I-M) also appealed to the public, media houses and social media users to verify information before sharing unauthenticated reports.
The group said that it would not “tolerate further attempts to malign its image through fake news and reserves the right to counter such propaganda with all necessary measures.”
