NSCN (I-M) denies role in Ukhrul ambush

DIMAPUR, JUL 6 (NPN): NSCN (I-M) on Monday denied any involvement in the reported ambush on a convoy of the Indian Armed forces at the Nungshang river area under Hungpung village, Ukhrul district, on July 6 around 1.30 p.m.
In a press statement though its MIP, NSCN (I-M) said the reported ambush, allegedly carried out by an armed group suspected to be the “breakaway Eastern Flank faction”, had no connection whatsoever with NSCN/GPRN. It also asserted that there was no “Eastern Flank” within the Naga army of the NSCN/GPRN.
The group categorically stated that it was neither involved in nor had any knowledge of the incident. NSCN (I-M) maintained that it remained firmly committed to the ceasefire agreement and continued to uphold its responsibilities under the agreed ground rules.
Reiterating its stand on the peace process, NSCN (I-M) said it would never resort to any action that could undermine, derail or sabotage the ongoing Indo-Naga political negotiations, adding that the pursuit of an honourable and peaceful political solution remained its unwavering commitment.
It also condemned all actions detrimental to the peace process and the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks. It urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint and responsibility to ensure that the hard-earned progress towards a peaceful resolution was not jeopardised by acts capable of creating mistrust and instability.
