NSCN (I-M) in a ‘statement of the joint council’ with regard to the Naga issue stated that Nagas were placed in a very perilous situation after the NNC had failed to uphold the national trust by signing the infamous Shillong Accord in 1975.
According to MIP, many of the home authorities of both central and regions, and Naga Army including unit commanders and commander-in-chief “gave in” to the enemies betraying the people and their cause.
However, MIP said a few remained committed national workers under the leadership of Isak Chishi Swu and Th. Muivah who stood their ground in the face of all odds.
If it was not for these few “revolutionary patriots” led by the two, MIP said the politics of the Nagas would have been ended there.
“We were fully convinced that the Naga politics cannot end with NNC and the future of the Nagas should not be buried with the Shillong Accord. Organization comes and goes; leadership comes and goes, but the nation stays”, it asserted.
