Konyak Union (KU) Headquarters, Mon has informed that its official, who was taken hostage by NSCN-K (Yung Aung), has been released.
KU president K Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak informed that following the receipt of information about abduction the presidents and executive members of KU Tobu unit, Mopong unit, Longchang unit, Aboi unit, Chen unit, Mon unit, Longshen unit, Phomching unit, Tizit unit, Wakching unit, Naginimora unit and Konyak CSOs convened an emergency meeting at KU office Mon on October 13.
KU said its official was taken hostage by NSCN-K (YA) faction operating across the Myanmar border, “for reasons best known to those responsible.”
KU has expressed appreciation to KU Phomching unit, KU Myanmar, Longwa village council, the Angh of Khanmoi village (Myanmar) and leaders of Gozu village (Myanmar) for their “prompt and effective” intervention that secured the release of the detained KU official. KU also acknowledged the NSCN-K (YA) faction “for cooperating with Konyak directives in facilitating the release.” Meanwhile, KU stated that after thorough deliberation it has resolved to direct all armed factions to “desist from parading in uniforms or carrying arms within Mon district.” KU warned that “under no circumstances shall any faction make forceful demands, abduct persons, or engage in threats or intimidation.”
Further, KU cautioned that failure to comply with its directive would result in an immediate declaration of non-cooperation with the offending faction(s). In such an event, KU said it would organize and mobilize Konyak youth to deploy to designated locations to confront and neutralize violations.
