NSCN-K (YA), ULFA-I claim attacks on security forces

The NSCN-K (Yung Aung) has claimed responsibility for a pre-dawn attack on a 4 Assam Rifles check post at Hahman village near Manmao in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh, on October 16.
In a press statement, the outfit alleged that Indian forces sealed off the area soon after the attack “to hide their losses,” though it admitted that casualties could not be confirmed.
The group accused security agencies of targeting its members and asserted that it would continue “tactical strikes” until Indian troops were withdrawn from what it termed as Naga areas.
The statement further claimed that a strike team of the ULFA-I carried out a separate attack around 12:30 a.m. on the same day on a 19 Grenadiers unit at Kakopathar in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Meanwhile, PRO (Defence) in a press release said that unidentified terrorists fired upon the Kakopathar company location from a moving vehicle at around midnight on October 17. Troops on duty, it stated, responded immediately and effectively, exercising caution to avoid collateral damage to nearby civilian houses.
According to the PRO, the swift retaliation by the Indian Army forced the attackers to flee after carrying out speculative firing using automatic weapons. It confirmed that no major injuries were reported except minor abrasions sustained by three personnel. The area has been sanitized and joint searches with police are underway, the PRO added.
