Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has strongly condemned the recent incidents of violence against women, which it said has reflected a deeply concerning trend in the society.
In a condemnation note, NSCW chairperson W Nginyeih Konyak said the physical assault on a nurse on duty by a patient attendant on April 18 at Tseminyu and the assault on a female staff member at Bakery by the proprietor on April 16 near Zion Hospital, was equally reprehensible and unacceptable.
Reiterating its unwavering stance against all forms of violence and harassment against women, NSCW said those acts have not only violated basic human rights but undermined the safety and dignity of women in workplaces and public spaces.
The commission therefore appealed to the district administrations and law enforcement agencies to ensure strict enforcement and monitoring of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) within their respective jurisdictions.
Further, the NSCW demanded 100% compliance with the mandate requiring all workplaces—whether government, private establishments, organizations, or institutions—with more than 10 employees to constitute Internal Complaints Committees (ICC) in accordance with the guidelines of the Act.
The NSCW said it will continue to advocate for safer environments for women and remained committed to ensure justice and accountability in all such cases.
