NSCW, others condemn Sep 8 rape incident

Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) and several other organizations have condemned the rape and attempted murder allegedly by one Benjamin Terieng of Ngwalwa village on September 8.


NSCW: Condemning the heinous act of rape, NSCW said details of the horrific incident were not only deeply disturbing but an affront to the values and laws of the land.


NSCW said it was imperative that justice be swift and resolute in this case so as to send a clear message that such acts of barbarism will not be tolerated and the perpetrator be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. NSCW, therefore, urged upon the law enforcement agencies to take appropriate and befitting action at the earliest.


HPV: Hinglakpechame (Clan) Poilwa Village (HPV) condemned the “brutal and beastly rape and attempt to murder “by one Benjami Terieng son of Suibaheing Terieng on the intervening night of September 8.


Hinglak clan termed it as an inhuman act of sexual violence carried out by the “psychopath” which ought to be condemned by all sections of the society and that no stone be left unturned to deliver justice. The clan further said that the perpetrator of the horrific crime should have no place in a civilized society. It also urged upon the law enforcing agency to deliver justice at the earliest so as to serve as an exemplary punishment for the coming generations. HPV also demanded that the accused be awarded most stringent punishment to discourage such occurrence in the future.


PSUNTA: While condemning the incident, Poimi Students’ Union Ngwalwa Town Area (PSUNTA) expressed deep shock that one of its bonafide member was brutally raped and her private parts mutilated with an attempt to murder by Benjamin Teriengson of Suibaheing Terieng of Ngwalwa village.


PSUNTA disclosed that the matter came to light after the victim narrated the horrific incident after developing serious health complications. The victim has been be admitted to the ICU and battling for life, it said. PSUNTA said the despicable act has no parallel in a civilized society and no act whatsoever can condone the actions of the accused.


It therefore, urged upon the law enforcers to leave no stone unturned in arresting the culprit and award befitting punishment. PSUNTA said that being a law abiding union, it believed in letting law take its own course. PSUNTA also warned anyone against bailing out the accused.
