Nagaland State Disaster Management Authoriy (NSDMA), through a communiqué issued by Home commissioner Neithu Thur IAS, informed that the high intensity earthquake that hit western parts of Manipur between Imphal and Noney-Longmai in Tamenglong district that occurred on January 4 was the result of strike slip faulting in the complex plate boundary region between India and the Eurasia plate in Southeast Asia. He said the quake occurred at a depth of close to 50-55 kms within the lithosphere plate with travel time residual of 1.05 second.
Thur said ,NSDMA through the home department’s State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) coordinated with District Disaster Management Authorities, where no casualties or damages were reported.
