DIMAPUR, JUN 15 (NPN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across several districts from June 16-19, 2026.
According to NSDMA, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning were likely at isolated places in Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Zunheboto, Kiphire and Peren districts on June 16, while other districts could experience light rainfall at a few locations.
On June 17, it said thunderstorms and lightning were expected at isolated places in Kohima, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung and Mon districts. Light to moderate rainfall was also likely across several parts of the state, NSDMA stated.
It stated that intermittent light to moderate rainfall would continue in many districts on June 18, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning expected in Kohima, Wokha and Mon districts.
On June 19, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning were likely at isolated places in Dimapur, Kohima and Peren districts. NSDMA warned that isolated heavy rainfall could occur in Peren district, raising the possibility of localized waterlogging and landslides, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
While no widespread extreme weather event is anticipated, NSDMA cautioned that isolated thunderstorms, lightning strikes and localized heavy rainfall could posed risks to commuters and residents.
The authority advised the public not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms, avoid water bodies during lightning activity and remain updated through official weather advisories.
Citizens have been urged to monitor official weather forecasts and advisories regularly. For real-time weather updates, NSDMA advised the public to access its weather website and the SAFER Nagaland mobile application.
