DIMAPUR, AUG 5 (NPN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall across the state from August 6-9, 2026 and issued alert for possible landslides, flash floods and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
In its district-wise weather forecast, NSDMA said localized thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall were expected over most districts during the four-day period, with weather activity likely to intensify on August 7.
Longleng, Mokokchung, Peren and Wokha are expected to receive comparatively heavier rainfall on August 7, while Zunheboto is likely to experience the most significant weather activity on August 8, with moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Longleng, Kiphire, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on the same day.
Rainfall activity is expected to ease gradually on August 9, although Wokha and Peren may continue to receive light to moderate rainfall, while Kiphire, Mon and Zunheboto are likely to witness localized thunderstorms.
In view of the forecast, NSDMA advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying, foothill and riverine areas, to remain vigilant against possible flooding, waterlogging, flash floods, landslides, mudslides and falling rocks during periods of intense rainfall.
The authority also urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling through hilly and landslide-prone stretches and advised the public to avoid crossing swollen streams and waterlogged roads.
