NSDMA records continuous rise of temperature

Nagaland State Disaster Management (NSDMA), Home Department, which studied the most recent weather events in the state, has said that its weather data recorded the rise in temperature with a difference of approximately 8°C from 2010 to 2016.
In a press release, NSDMA secretary Khrienuo Metha said on August 3, 2016, the weather assessment report of the NSDMA has recorded a continuous rise of temperature from 2010 to 2016.
NSDMA said August 3, 2016 was also found to be one of the hottest days of this year in Kohima.
As per the climate data analysis carried out by NSDMA home department, secretary said unusually high temperatures were recorded on August 3, 2016 and August 4, 2016 with the temperature rising to a maximum of 33.6°C on August 3, 2016 and 30.8°C   on August 4, 2016.
The graphical representation of temperature from 2010 to 2016 (see graphics) suggests that climate change has led to changes in climate/extreme weather events.
“The climate extreme events or even a series of non-extreme climate events due to climate change can lead to greater risk for climate related disasters,” said NSDMA secretary. With the evidence of extreme climate events due to climate change, NSDMA said policies should be evoked to avoid, prepare for, respond to and recover from the climate induced risk of disasters.
The integrated approach to Climate Change adaptations and disaster risk reduction should be a way of life to be practiced by every individual in the community, said the secretary. According to NSDMA, the integrated approach to climate change adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction were the most effective measures that aided sustainable development.  Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change sensitivity amongst the policy makers, community leaders, church leaders and every individual could bring resilience for the future generation, NSDMA underscored.
