NSDMA warns of heavy rain, storms

DIMAPUR, JUL 27 (NPN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather forecast for July 28-31, warning of localized thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall in several parts of the state, and advising residents to remain vigilant against landslides, flash floods and waterlogging.
In a press release, NSDMA said localized thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light rain were expected across most districts on July 28. It predicted moderate rainfall in parts of Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto, while Mokokchung and Tseminyu could experience moderate to heavy rainfall at most places.
On July 29, weather activity is expected to intensify, with Kohima likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Most other districts are expected to experience localized thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall, while Mon, Noklak, Peren, Tseminyu and Zunheboto could receive rainfall at most places. NSDMA urged people living in landslide-prone and low-lying areas to remain alert.
For July 30, it has forecast localized thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall across several districts. Tuensang is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, while rainfall over other districts is likely to be comparatively lighter.
Weather conditions are expected to improve on July 31, with light to moderate rainfall at a few places across many districts. However, isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall could still occur over Meluri, Mokokchung, Phek, Peren, Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto.
