NSDMA warns of thunderstorms, heavy rain

Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather alert, forecasting unsettled conditions across the state till April 3, 2026.
NSDMA informed that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate to heavy rainfall, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph were likely to occur at isolated to scattered places during this period. Several districts including Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Tuensang, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Phek were expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface winds, particularly on March 31 and April 1. Further, NSDMA informed that thunderstorms and rainfall were likely in Chümoukedima, Mon, Niuland, Tseminyu, and other districts during the forecast period.
It cautioned that heavy rainfall and strong winds could lead to poor visibility, waterlogging, uprooting of trees, damage to vulnerable structures, and disruption of power and communication lines. It said there was also a risk of landslides in vulnerable areas and lightning strikes posing danger to people and livestock in open fields. Standing crops and horticultural produce may suffer damage due to strong winds and heavy rain. Farmers have been advised to take immediate precautionary measures to safeguard crops, livestock, and agricultural infrastructure. The public has been urged to remain alert and take necessary safety precautions.
Meanwhile, IMD said that many parts of the country may not be hotter than usual during April-June summer season due to normal to ‘below normal’ maximum (day) temperatures but most parts in east, northeast and coastal Peninsular India are likely to get two to eight days of extended heatwave duration.
