Advisor NSDMA and CAWD, Kazheto Kinimi launched the website of NSDMA www.nsdma.nagaland.gov.in in Kohima on Thursday.
The advisor launched the website at the capacity development programme under the theme “Build to Last: Disaster Resilient Infrastructures” at Administrative Training Institute, Kohima organised by Nagaland Disaster Management Authority.
He said disaster management has become a developmental issue all over the world where extreme weather events have halted development activities.
Therefore, he said mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) strategies into developmental planning of all the departments and stakeholders was imperative.
The advisor also said that in line with Disaster Management Act 2005 and other international framework, home department has initiated many important works in making Nagaland more resilient to disasters.
Maintaining that disaster management and response to disaster event was everyone responsibility and that it needed people’s support and collaboration, he called for making a “family disaster management plan” so that every families will be prepared for any disaster where lives and properties can be saved.
Principal secretary and home commissioner, Abhijit Sinha in his keynote address said the concept of conducting Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) every year was precisely to get the full view of what could happened when disaster strikes and how to respond in such situations.
Sinha insisted that the stakeholders must read the Incident Response System (IRS) so that they will not be lost when such kind of disaster takes place.
OSD NSDMA, Johnny Raungmei in his overview of IRS as notified by state government said there should not be any strangers to disaster and lamented that Nagaland do not have a single building that has water sprinkler.
Reminding that uncertainty should not be the reason for inaction, Raungmei pointed out the infrastructures in the state need to be redefined by bringing out resilience spectrum to reduce vulnerability and exposure to hazard.
Representatives from various departments, school authorities and others attended the capacity development programme.
