With the 26th Naga Students’ Conference (NSF) general conference all set to begin Wednesday evening, the NSF has appealed to all sections of Naga society to maintain peaceful atmosphere throughout the state and to refrain from creating untoward problem that would look odd in the mind of visitors.
The general conference is scheduled to be held at Khonoma from May 13 to 16 on the theme “towards a just society”.
Union minister of state in-charge of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal would pay a visit to Nagaland on Thursday to attend the conference as guest of honour at the inaugural session. Interlocutor of the Indo- Naga Peace talks, R. N. Ravi will be the special guest on the debate to be held on the topic “GoI is serious to solve Naga Political issue”.
Addressing press conference Tuesday, former president of NSF and convener of the central organizing committee of the general conference, NSN Lotha said Sonowal would arrive Kohima at around 9 a.m. May 14 and along with chief minister T. R. Zeliang leave for Khonoma village to attend the NSF general conference.
He also informed that chief minister T. R. Zeliang would be chief guest of the conference on May 14.
Chairman of the Global Young Leaders Academy and President of the World Trade and Development Group from Washington DC, USA John Dickson and Youth Chief of the Sabah United Peoples Party and Vo- Chair of Center for Public Policy Studies Malaysia Arthur will be special guests of the theme session on May 14 and 15 respectively.
It was informed that a team would be constituted to see various topics, which could bring development in the Naga society. On May 14, the team would also conduct a debate on various issues like Naga struggle for economic independence and self- determination in the context of life standard present Naga society, Naga political problem, on self introspect into Naga society and various other important issues.
NSF president Tongpang Ozukum informed that the federation, which was not only confined into a mere student body, has taken a wide vision to bring reform in Naga society. He said with the presence of various learned persons from the mainland and foreign countries at the conference, the people would able to learn many things from them.
More than 1500 official delegates from the 17 federating units and host of guest invitees were expected to attend the general conference. Election of new term of office bearers would be held on 15 at 2 pm.
