NSF appreciates government stand on MBBS seat issue

DIMAPUR:

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has conveyed its deep appreciation to the Government of Nagaland for firmly upholding the rights and interests of the indigenous people of the State in the matter concerning the MBBS seat from the central pool allocation.
In a press release, Naga Students’ Federation president Mteisuding Heraang and general secretary Kenilo Kent commended the state government for taking a principled and unwavering stand to ensure that the seats allocated to Nagaland are protected for the rightful beneficiaries. It stated that the government’s action reflected its commitment to safeguarding the educational opportunities and future aspirations of the Naga people.
Naga Students’ Federation reiterated that only the indigenous populace of Nagaland and Nagas by blood should be entitled to avail the quota and benefits of seats allotted to the State. It maintained that such seats were not merely administrative allocations but protective measures intended to secure the academic advancement of the indigenous Naga community.
It cautioned against any attempts by non-Nagas to claim or avail seats meant exclusively for Nagas, stating that such attempts challenged the spirit of the special protections accorded to the State and compromised the rights of deserving Naga students.
At the same time, Naga Students’ Federation urged the state government to take necessary and proactive measures to ensure that such incidents do not arise in the future. It suggested strengthening verification mechanisms, streamlining eligibility criteria and instituting clear safeguards to prevent ambiguity and protect the integrity of the quota system.
It also assured the government of its continued support in all efforts aimed at defending and preserving the rights and privileges of the indigenous Naga people.
