Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has called upon its federating units, subordinate bodies, and the entire student community to actively participate in the observance of World Environment Day (WED) on June 5.
In a statement, NSF president Medovi Rhi and general secretary Chumben Khuvung stated that this year’s theme “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience” underscored the critical need for individual and collective actions to protect and rejuvenate the natural environment.
“As part of our commitment to fostering a greener future, we encourage every member of our community to take part in meaningful activities that contribute to the well-being of our planet,” they appealed.
Stating that a central initiative that they were promoting was planting of saplings, they stressed that this simple yet impactful act not only contributed to reforestation efforts but also symbolised dedication to nurturing the environment for future generations.
NSF urged every student, unit, and sub-ordinate body to plant at least one sapling and care for it as it grows.
In addition to tree planting, they advocated participation in a variety of other conservation activities, including clean-up drives, awareness campaigns, workshops and seminars, and other activities on environmental issues. They said they believed that these collective efforts would not only enhance immediate surroundings, but also contribute to global environmental health.
The federation appealed for coming together this World Environment Day to reaffirm commitment to the environment. NSF pointed out that taking these small but meaningful steps would help ensure a sustainable and thriving future for all.
