NSF condemns assault on Nagas in Manipur

DIMAPUR:

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has strongly condemned the recent incident of brutal physical assault, death threat and extortion perpetrated upon two members of the Naga community from Tseminyu district. The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of March 23 between Keithelmanbi and Sapermiena under Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
In a press release, NSF president Mteisuding and assistant general secretary Veze Tunyi, expressed grave concern over the recurring acts of intimidation and violence against innocent Nagas engaged in legitimate livelihood activities. It noted that such incidents reflect persistent harassment faced by ordinary citizens who depend on daily trade and movement across regions for survival.
The Federation reaffirmed that Nagas have always upheld peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among all communities. However, it said these cowardly acts of violence threaten to erode the fragile fabric of harmony in the region.
Standing in solidarity with the victims and the Rengma Students’ Union (RSU), NSF demanded that the concerned authorities take immediate and decisive action to identify, apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators. It also urged the authorities to institute concrete measures to ensure the safety and security of civilians and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
NSF cautioned that failure to deliver justice would compel the Federation to initiate strong countermeasures in defence of the rights, dignity and security of the Naga people. It reiterated that such acts of criminality would not be tolerated under any circumstances and that justice must be served befittingly.
