Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has urged the state government to issue an official order regarding fee waiver by all schools. This should be issued in line with the successive court orders, NSF added.
In a representation to school education principal director Shanavas C, NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Siipuni Ng Philo said that the lockdown in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic caused untold hardships to the entire populace and the education sector had been impacted severely, threatening to throw the future of students into jeopardy.
It feared that a majority section of Naga society would be left with no resources at their disposal to meet their day-to-day requirements. NSF, however, said it was convinced that the future of students and society could not be compromised despite the raging pandemic and that every possible effort should be taken by all stakeholders in a bid to salvage the situation.
During a threadbare discussion with the principal director, NSF also alleging that most teachers employed by the State government were neglecting their duties even when online classes were on. It therefore, urged the government to strictly implement the “no work, no pay” policy.
NSF said that the PD assured them that steps in the right direction would be taken by the department and the government at the earliest.
Meanwhile, NSF appealed to all educated youth, particularly in rural areas where lack of access to technology have largely hampered teaching-learning process, to play a proactive role in imparting education to the student community affected by the ongoing shutdown of educational institutions. It also appealed to parents of students who are economically sound to pay off the school fees of their wards on time so that the continuous cycle of teaching-learning process remained unaffected.
Further, the federation extended its sincerest appreciation towards the Catholic community of Nagaland and all other educational institutions for having come forward to help the needy students in the form of fee waiver during the previous academic year.
