DIMAPUR, OCT 8 (NPN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has urged the state government to act on its demand for termination of 109 alleged backdoor appointments across 16 departments.
In an open letter to the state government, NSF vice president and grievances & redressal cell convenor Vimeyiekho Vitso and NSF editor and education committee convenor Pithungo Shitio said the federation was dismayed by what they described as the government’s “lackadaisical approach” to its representation of April 10, 2025, and ultimatum of March 20, 2026.
NSF said it had allowed the government additional time, despite the expiry of its ultimatum, taking into account the procedural requirements involved in terminating the appointments. It, however, alleged that the government had remained nonchalant on an issue affecting students and job aspirants.
The federation said it had received a circular convening a cabinet sub-committee meeting on temporary PIMS on October 12, in the presence of deputy chief minister (home & border affairs), four cabinet ministers, two advisers, the chief secretary and the home commissioner (P&AR in-charge), to discuss the NSF’s ultimatum.
It reiterated that “restoration of meritocracy and transparency” should guide the government’s response and demanded termination of all appointments it had identified as backdoor appointments.
NSF also appealed to appointees aware of irregularities in their recruitment to voluntarily step down, saying this would prevent the matter from being prolonged at the expense of job aspirants awaiting fair opportunities in government employment.
The federation said it expected decisive action from the government and warned that it would “intensively and extensively” resort to democratic forms of protest if the October 12 meeting failed to address its demands satisfactorily.
The federation also sought public support in its effort to restore fairness, meritocracy and transparency in government recruitment.
