NSF demonstration for solution on PM’s visit to Kohima

Correspondent

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) staged demonstrations at various locations in Kohima coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Tuesday.
Students from various institutions displayed placards at several locations of the town, including Old MLA junction, Phoolbari and NSF Martyrs’ Park.
NSF is asking the Central government to be serious and show utmost sincerity in ensuring an inclusive, honourable, early and acceptable solution to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue. Interacting with a section of media persons , NSF president Kegwayhun Tep said the federation felt that the Naga political issue has been “almost forgotten”.
He said through the demonstration, NSF wanted to remind the newly-elected representatives of the State to be mindful of the aspirations of Naga people and put in more serious efforts as facilitators, and not use the genuine and legitimate Naga political issue as a “mere political gambit”.
NSF said the demonstration was also a reminder to the Naga negotiators that Naga youth and student community were yearning for a lasting peace across Naga homeland and that generations that would inherit the solution would no longer tolerate division within themselves.
Tep recalled that the BJP had advocated “election for solution” in the past but lamented that five years lapsed since then, but no solution was visible.
He expressed the hope that with the new government in place and with Modi’s visit to Nagaland, the aspiration of the people will be heard by the national leaders.
He also clarified that NSF had not done anything wrong by taking to the streets to voice out the aspirations of Nagas.
Tep asserted that the NSF will continue to strive till the “sovereign right” of the Nagas was achieved.
He also reminded the elected representatives to be serious about the issue and also urged the negotiators to cooperate.
The demonstrations were held with the active participation and support of NSF’s federating units and subordinate bodies.
