NSF opposes unregulated e-pharmacies

DIMAPUR, MAY 23 (NPN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has extended support to the recent one-day token strike called by the Nagaland Medicine Dealers’ Association (NMDA) and demanded strict action against unregulated e-pharmacies, substandard medicines and illegal drug suppliers in the state.
In a press note, NSF president Mteisuding and general secretary Kenilo Kent said the federation stood in solidarity with chemists and druggists over concerns surrounding the unchecked growth of unregulated online pharmacies, predatory pricing practices and policy measures allegedly affecting local pharmaceutical retailers. Asserting that there should be “no compromise” on matters concerning public health, NSF has called for complete transparency, accountability and strict regulatory oversight in the procurement, storage, distribution and sale of medicines and medical supplies.
The federation also urged the responsible department to ensure strict action against the supply of expired, counterfeit and substandard medicines. NSF expressed concern over individuals and entities allegedly operating without proper licences, statutory permissions and professional credentials.
Further, the federation called upon the authorities to strengthen quality testing and verification mechanisms for medicines and medical supplies procured by the state.
It also demanded scrutiny of internal audit and inspection reports, verification of licences and statutory clearances of suppliers, and physical inspection of warehouses and storage facilities to ensure compliance with prescribed standards.
NSF maintained that any firm found involved in supply irregularities, non-compliance, falsification of records or violation of procurement norms should be penalised and blacklisted in accordance with law.
NSF affirmed that public health cannot be subjected to commercial exploitation, administrative negligence, or regulatory compromise.
