Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has taken umbrage to governor RN Ravi’s recent letter to chief minister Neiphiu Rio for allegedly showing torchbearers of Naga movement in bad light.
While revealing Government of India’s (GoI) arrogance, insincerity and unwillingness to settle the Naga political issue, NSF through its media cell alleged that the letter indicated that the governor planned to overthrow a democratically-elected government.
While representing the aspirations of Naga students and youth spread across four States and two countries, NSF declared that it would not remain blind and mute to attempts by individuals to belittle and disregard the “internationally-recognised movement”.
The federation denounced and condemned the “disrespectful attitude” of Ravi towards Naga freedom fighters, adding use of terms like gangsters, extortionists, etc, by him only sought to undo whatever had been achieved through the blood, sweat and tears of his predecessors.
Stating that it had lost all hopes of an honourable and acceptable solution to the vexed Naga issue with someone with minimal understanding of the issue and with disrespectful attitude remained at helm, the student body held Ravi responsible for the hiccups in the Naga peace process.
NSF also demanded Ravi to come out in the open and tell Naga people whom he was referring to as “gangsters” and “extortionists”.
Reminding the governor that the Centre had officially recognised the Naga issue as a political issue and cautioning that his every single attempt to downgrade it to a law and order problem would prove futile, NSF said it was time that he took his role as an interlocutor seriously or quit for, even with or without him, the aspiration of Naga people would continue to thrive.
