NSF rejects proposed Moirabari-Dimapur railway link

DIMAPUR, JUN 12 (NPN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed strong opposition to the proposed introduction of a new passenger train service connecting Moirabari in Assam to Dimapur.
In a press note, NSF president Mteisuding and general secretary Kenilo Kent questioned the intent behind the proposal submitted by Dr. Asif Md. Nazar, MLA from Laharighat LAC, Assam, to divisional railway manager, Northeast Frontier Railway, Lumding division, on June 1, 2026.
NSF pointed out that operational railway services already exist between Assam and Dimapur.
It raised serious concerns over the potential demographic and security implications of the new route, stating that Dimapur, as the main entry point into Nagaland, was already vulnerable to the influx of undocumented illegal immigrants.
The federation asserted that enhancing multiple direct corridors without robust mechanisms of regulation, verification and monitoring was an existential threat. NSF warned that such connectivity could accelerate illegal immigration and pose a grave danger to the socio-economic, cultural, and political future of indigenous Nagas.
NSF called upon the Ministry of Railways, NFR, and the state government to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the demographic, security, and socio-economic implications before considering the proposal.
NSF further demanded complete transparency regarding the basis of the proposal, studies conducted, stakeholders consulted, and the public interest it seeks to serve.
NSF reiterated that it rejected any developmental initiative that came at the expense of the security, identity, and future of the Naga people and warned that any move compromising the demographic and socio-political interests of the Nagas would be met with firm democratic resistance.
