The 25th Anniversary Edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy continued to witness high-intensity clashes at the IG Stadium, Kohima, where Red Scars FC and Sechü Zubza Football Club booked their berths in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
In the third pre-quarterfinal match of the tournament, Red Scars FC delivered a commanding performance to defeat Michazou FC 5–0. From the very outset, Red Scars dominated possession and dictated the pace of the game, leaving little room for their opponents to recover.
Red Scars’ forward Asito, jersey no. 8, set the tone early with a goal in the 5th minute, followed by another strike in the 23rd minute to complete his brace. Rakeviche (jersey no. 10) added to the tally in the 26th minute, while Sentisang (jersey no. 9) sealed the victory with two goals in the 63rd and 71st minutes.
The match was patronised by Er. Nagashe Swu, Executive Engineer (Housing), Department of Tribal Affairs. Asito’s impressive performance earned him the Player of the Match title, which was presented by Kevilelhou Zumvü, former vice president of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU).
In the fourth pre-quarterfinal encounter, Sechü Zubza FC edged past Ward 19 Kohima in a dramatic penalty shootout after both teams were locked in a goalless draw at full time. Sechü Zubza triumphed 3–1 in the tiebreaker, securing their place in the next round.
The match was patronised by T. Phangphe Wangsha, deputy director, Rural Development Department. Neithovilie Chalieu, captain and jersey no. 13 of Sechü Zubza FC, was named Man of the Match. He recieved the award from the match patron. With their victories, Red Scars FC and Sechü Zubza FC now joins Chedema Youth Organisation and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong in the list of teams advancing to the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament, as the battle for the coveted title intensifies.
