Expressing deep concern over the plight of Naga students and youths, who were currently stranded in Nepal owing to the ongoing political crisis in that country, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has appealed to the state government to help bring them back to Nagaland.
In a letter to the chief secretary, NSF president Mteisuding and general secretary Kenilo Kent stated that many of the Nagas had gone to Nepal for academic and professional pursuits. However, NSF said the prevailing situation has placed them in a position of “grave uncertainty and distress.”
In view of the difficulties faced by Naga students and youths in securing safe passage, NSF has sought urgent intervention of the state government to facilitate their movement back to Nagaland. Further, NSF urged the state government to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and other relevant agencies to arrange necessary travel support, documentation and transit assistance to ensure their safe return.
NSF has also requested the government to make suitable arrangements upon their arrival, including logistical support and immediate assistance where required. NSF stated that such timely intervention by the state government would bring immense relief to the stranded individuals as well as their anxious families back home.
