Member Secretary, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), Mezivolu T. Therieh attended a two-day South Asia Regional Conference, amplifying lessons from Swaraksha Caravan, organized by Prajwala at Hyderabad on April 7 and 8.
A press release from the NSLSA public relations assistant stated that the member secretary spoke about the way forward in preventing human trafficking in Nagaland. The format of the conference was designed to include the sharing of lessons learned from Swaraksha campaign, the impact thereafter and proposed plans to replicate the campaign across the region.
‘Swaraksha’ (self-protection) a community awakening caravan conceived and pioneered by Prajwala in close partnership with the governments of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, supported by the US Consulate General Hyderabad and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) was launched on January 9, 2016 in Hyderabad, Telangana. As the first of its kind survivor-led community-awakening caravan, the campaign was also unique in the collaborative partnership successfully established on the ground with the state governments and civil society.
The conference was organized for the officials from department of Women and Child Welfare or Social Welfare, Police, Judiciary and civil society organizations. Representatives from South Asian countries — Bangladesh, Thailand, Nepal and Myanmar — 150 delegates from all over India: one representative each from department of Women & Child Welfare or Social Welfare, Police, State Legal Services and civil society organization from 26 Indian states and two representatives from each of the four South Asian countries, participated in the conference.
