Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) has successfully concluded the 90-day nationwide mediation campaign under the banner “Mediation for the Nation,” with the amicable settlement of 89 cases out of 428 referred matters between July and September 2025.
The campaign was conceptualised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in association with the Mediation & Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), Supreme Court of India, under the guidance of Chief Justice of India and Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Executive Chairman of NALSA and Chairman of MCPC. The campaign was launched across India on July 1, 2025.
During the drive, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) and the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) identified and referred cases for mediation, resulting in 86 settlements registered in various judicial courts. Mediators who had undergone 40 hours of training facilitated the process.
Justice Surya Kant also held video conferences with Chief Justices and Mediation Monitoring Committees of all High Courts to review progress. Data on pending and referred cases were transmitted to MCPC by respective High Courts to ensure effective implementation.
The campaign addressed a wide range of disputes including money suits, custody cases, consumer and family disputes, criminal compoundable cases, accident claims, recovery suits, and other civil matters. However, several cases remained unresolved due to lack of response, disinterest in mediation, or requests for more time.
Mediation, as a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), offers parties a legal avenue to resolve conflicts outside of court through the assistance of a neutral facilitator.
In Nagaland, 52 legal practitioners have completed mediation training under NALSA. Interested parties may approach their respective DLSA Front Offices or the NSLSA office for amicable resolution of disputes, especially during the upcoming 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat scheduled for December 13, 2025.
