 14 NSS VOLUNTEERS SELECTED FOR PRE-REPUBLIC PARADE CAMP

National Service Scheme (NSS) conducted a three-day training programme on “leadership and personality development through life skills”, here, at St. Joseph University, Sovima from September 16- 18. 
Addressing the media at the university campus, regional director, NSS, North East region, Dipak Kumar informed that the three-day programme was conducted for NSS volunteers to understand the 10 life skills recommended by WHO.
The 10 life skills include problem solving, decision making, creative thinking, critical thinking, self-awareness, empathy, interpersonal relationship, good communication, management of stress, and management of emotions. 
He also stressed on how life skills help volunteers in developing leadership quality and personality. “The main aim of NSS is development of personality through community service”, he said. 
With regard to the 14 selected volunteers from the state for the pre- republic parade camp, Dipak Kumar said that the parade would be conducted at Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar (CIT) Assam from October 23 to November 1 to select final NSS volunteers to participate in the Republic day parade. 
He added that selected volunteers would attend a one-month camp at Delhi, and would also have the opportunity to meet president, vice president and prime minister of India. 
One camp would also include intellectual and cultural exchange sessions. 
Meanwhile, state NSS officer, NSS cell Nagaland, Zeneikho-o Pfukha informed that the leadership and personality development through life skills conducted in Dimapur was the second batch conducted by NSS cell Nagaland, the first batch conducted at St. Joseph College, Jakhama, from September 9 to 11.
He informed that the second batch volunteers included volunteers from Dimapur, Mon, Peren and Longleng. 
Meanwhile, with regard to the training programme, he said that the volunteers were trained on personality development, youth health awareness, life skills, inter personal relation and effective communication, creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making and coping with stress and emotions.
The resource persons were comprised of representatives from health department, physical instructors and consulters.
The second batch included volunteers from 19 institutions of Dimapur, Peren, Jalukie, Mon and Longleng.
It may be mentioned that out of the 14 selected volunteers, three were from Kohima, two from Zunheboto, one from Pfutsero, two from Peren and seven from Dimapur.
