DIMAPUR: A contingent of 32 NSS volunteers along with Programme Officers Vikato Swu and Tokani L from St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama represented Nagaland State at the North East NSS Festival 2026 held at SC Bhawan, Gangtok, Sikkim from July 16 to 20.
Organised by the Sikkim State NSS Cell, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, the five day festival brought together around 300 student volunteers and programme officers from across the Northeast for learning, cultural exchange and community engagement.
The programme featured motivational talks, career counselling, awareness sessions on disaster management, substance abuse, mental health, biodiversity, waste management and cyber crime, alongside experiential learning activities under My Bharat. Each day began with Zumba and concluded with cultural programmes celebrating the diversity of the region.
As part of the cultural exchange competition, Nagaland State performed Meghalaya’s folk dance. In competitive events, Bemolongmang M. Chang and Visulu Rume won the quiz competition, while Vuruthong secured 2nd runner up in the PPT presentation on state topography, demography and cultural heritage.
The blend of expert led sessions, competitions and cultural programmes ensured a balance of structured learning and celebration of regional identity. For the contingent from St. Joseph’s College, the festival was an opportunity to represent the state with discipline and enthusiasm while gaining exposure to a wider network of NSS volunteers.
The college expressed gratitude to the NSS Cell Nagaland, Department of Youth and Sports, Government of Nagaland, the Regional Directorate Office NSS, Guwahati, and the NSS Cell Sikkim for the opportunity.
