NSSA two-week shooting training and competition concludes

The two-week free shooting training and competition programme, organised by Nagaland Shooting Sports Association (NSSA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS), concluded on Saturday. The training programme was held at Temjen Toy Indoor Shooting Range, Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, Dimapur, under the theme “Sports for All”.
Addressing the valedictory function as guest of honour, SDO (Civil) Dimapur, Wiridin Zeliang, said witnessing the shooting training and competition was a first of its kind experience for him in the state, opining that shooting as a sport was rare in the state and needed to be further explored and promoted.
Describing shooting as a discipline-oriented sport, Zeliang emphasised that it required concentration, timing, hard work and consistency.
He however asserted that as Nagas, we have always been fascinated with guns, adding that Nagas should take the advantage of this interest positively, polish our skills and aim to reach the top at the national and international level.
Citing Manipur as an example of a state that has produced numerous sportspersons for the country, he urged Naga youth to dedicate themselves with the same commitment.
He further reminded the participants that whether in sports, competitive exams or any other field, consistent practice and dedication were the keys to success.
Delivering the welcome address and giving a brief report on the training, DYRS shooting instructor, Hito Swu, informed that 109 athletes had registered for the programme, out of which 37 (19 male and 18 female) attended the sessions. He added participants came from various districts of Nagaland as well as neighbouring states.
He later added that during the training programme, participants underwent training in shooting fundamentals, range safety, discipline, and competitive shooting techniques. Swu also read out the winners of the various categories of competition held amongst the participants. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Vilivi H Sheqi, invocation offered by Liza R Achumi, while a short speech on behalf of the participants was delivered by Gemdynaro Longkumer.
The valedictory programme concluded with distribution of certificates and prizes to the winners of the competition, and all participants.
