NSU Dibrugarh celebrates golden jubilee

Naga Students’ Union Dibrugarh (NSUD) celebrated its golden jubilee at Sacred Heart Cathedral Compound, Dibrugarh on Saturday.

Speaking at the occasion, minister, planning & coordination, land revenue and parliamentary affairs, Neiba Kronu said that students need to come together, learn and bring quality education to the core so that they could come back to Nagaland and serve the state in professional capacities.

Kronu pointed out the viable need for modern medical facility in the form of a medical college which has not been able to be set up till date, facing graver challenge when one has to ponder the manpower and expertise to run such institutions.

He nevertheless said that the North Eastern states of India were gifted with the richness of land and resources. 

Mentioning few alumni of Naga Students in Dibrugarh, he said that legendary footballer T Ao, late minister TM Lotha and legistators like Dr. Neikesalie Kire were those among a host of medical retired officers and para medical officers.

He held that the premiere educational destination offered a conducive, peaceful atmosphere for Nagas. 

In this regard, he encouraged all to nurture the relationship and share peace through the fellowship of oneness and concern for one another. 

In his solidarity speech, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president, Kegwayhun Tep commended honour to the pioneers of NSUD and appealed the members and students to continue sharing the solidarity of coexistence towards a way forward.

Kegwayhun said that while for the welfare and future aspiration of Nagas was being pursued through the lens of Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) to promote meritocracy and fairness of appointment, it would be implemented very soon. He appealed to the government for early expedition of the process. 

Delivering the presidential address, Kape Khalo stated that the union was established in 1971 with the vision to cater to the needs of Naga students studying in Dibrugarh and to bring together the Naga community of Dibrugarh as one.

“Today, we can find many of the alumni of this union who are leading in the field of academic, in the medical fraternity in our state’s political arena and even in the field of sports”, he said. 

NSUD along with Naga elders in Dibrugarh has never failed to stand up for the welfare of Naga students and Naga community in times of unrest, he stated. 

Greetings were delivered by Ethungbemo Ezung senior alumni, drug inspector cum medical device officer, drug control administration, department of health and family welfare; Talikaba Longchar, advisor, NSUD, senior managar, engineers India limited; Savizo Kezieo, ex- president, NSUD and Himaloy Barik, general secretary Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students’ Union.

Earlier, commemoration of golden jubilee stone was unveiled at Naga patient house. The jubilee magazine was launched thereafter by the speaker.
