
Naga Students’ Union Bangalore (NSUB) launched its golden jubilee celebrations at the United Theological College (UTC) campus, Bangalore on February 23, with Thotngam Jamang, general manager of Reserve Bank of India as chief guest.
A press release from NSUB media cell stated that Thotngam, in his speech, reminded the students that they should always remember and acknowledge pioneers whose vision and forward thinking had laid the foundation for the Nagas in Bangalore.
The NSUB logo along with the motto “building resilience beyond challenges” was unveiled by the chief guest, convener of the NSUB golden jubilee, BendangYanger, and the NSUB president. The NSUB anthem composed by the “Red Light Passengers” was also sung during the event. ‘Bridge’, an original poem composed by I. Zulu Jamir, was also recited by Sentilong. Ranglung Salie presented a solo song; vote of thanks was proposed by Atoka Zhimomi, and benediction was said by Haigwateing Meru, pastor, Zeme Christian Fellowship Bangalore.
The evening session began with a prayer by Rev. Dr K H Reihe, pastor, Poumai Naga Baptist Church Bangalore. Nuthipru Nienu, president of NSUB felicitated the chief guest, VIP’s from across the North East states, co-sponsors, ex officials of NSUB and all the pastors. Together with the ex-presidents of NSUB, Nuthipru Nienu launched an official website designed and developed by Supongkiba Kichu.
A cultural competition in the category of cultural folk songs and solo was also organized. The first prize in the cultural competition was bagged by the Angami Students’ Union Bangalore, followed by Poumai Naga Students’ Union Bangalore and 3rd place by the Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Bangalore. Chonchon Varah, a guest artiste from the Tangkhul community also presented a song. Thejangulie Yiese presented a beatboxing show. In the solo competition, Sunep Lemtur representing the Ao community won the first place, 2nd by Ruth Murry representing the Lothas, and 3rd was shared by two individuals — Dziiphro Terri from the Mao community and Kuputo K Wotsa from the Sumi community. The program concluded with a prayer from Abraham Maluk, chaplain, Tangkhul Christian Fellowship Bangalore.
Many food stalls were also set up during the event, co-sponsored by Axis Bank.
