NSWC lauds decision on 33% women quota

Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSWC) has expressed appreciation to the state government under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, the tribal hohos and the civil society organisations of Nagaland for their support and commitment in paving the way for implementing the 33% reservation for women in the upcoming urban local bodies election.

In a statement, NSWC stated that their resolute stance in endorsing “this crucial step towards gender equality” was commendable and demonstrated a progressive vision for Nagaland.

The commission stated that the tribal hohos and CSO, by overtly supporting the initiative, have not only shown their dedication to women empowerment in decision-making bodies, but also their foresight in promoting inclusive governance. “This move indicates a significant milestone in the journey toward a more equitable and representative democracy in Nagaland,” NSWC stated.

NSWC chairperson W Nginyeih Konyak, on behalf of the commission and all the Naga women in general, has expressed deep gratitude to the government, Tribal hohos and CSOs for their valuable contribution and insight to the state’s development and social progress.
